star.shop is a product-recommendation site. We make money one way: if you buy something through our Amazon links, Amazon pays us a commission. That shapes what we collect — enough to know which recommendations people find useful, and nothing more.

What we collect

We run our own first-party analytics — no Google Analytics, no third-party trackers, no advertising pixels. When you visit, we set a few cookies scoped to star.shop: a random visitor id, a session id, how you first arrived (for example “from a link on X”), and which Amazon tracking tag applies to that arrival. None of this identifies you personally, and we don't try to. We record the pages you view, outbound clicks to retailers, your rough location (city level, from your IP address), and your browser type — the same things a standard server log contains.

What we share

When you click through to Amazon, the link carries an Amazon Associates tracking tag so the purchase can be credited to us. What happens on Amazon is governed by Amazon's own privacy policy — we never see what you buy, only aggregate commission reports. We don't sell, rent, or share visitor data with anyone.

Ads

We sometimes run ads on platforms like X and Facebook that link here. Those links include a campaign code so we can tell which ads were worth running. If you arrive from one of those ads, our server may report back to that platform that its ad led to a visit or an outbound retailer click — that's how we measure whether an ad was worth running. This reporting happens from our servers, not from tracking scripts in your browser: there are no third-party pixels or trackers on the site, and nothing is ever reported about visitors who don't arrive from an ad.
